I'm Heather, a fully qualified teacher with many years of experience helping children build confidence and achieve success in mathematics.

During my teaching career, I held the roles of Head of Maths and Head of Year 7, giving me a unique understanding of both the academic and pastoral challenges children face when they move to secondary school.
​
I've taught students with a wide range of abilities, from those who have lost confidence in maths to those aiming for the highest grades. Throughout my career, one thing has remained constant: children achieve their best when they feel supported, understood and encouraged to believe in themselves.

This course has been created using everything I've learnt as a classroom teacher, middle leader and private tutor.

Week 1 – Ready for the Adventure
We'll begin by exploring what maths is really like in secondary school and helping students feel excited about the journey ahead.

By the end of the first session, your child will already have a clearer picture of what lies ahead and will begin building confidence in their own abilities.
Week 2 – Becoming a Mathematical Detective
This session is all about learning how to think, rather than simply memorising methods.

Spot patterns and useful clues

Try different approaches when they get stuck

Explain their thinking with confidence

These are the skills that help children tackle unfamiliar questions throughout secondary school.
Week 3 – Building Strong Foundations
We'll revisit some of the key mathematical ideas that children use most often when they begin Year 7.

Common mistakes and how to avoid them

Week 4 – Ready to Shine
Our final session brings everything together.

Who is this course for?

This course is designed specifically for children who will be starting Year 7 in September 2026.

No entrance test is required, and children of all mathematical abilities are welcome. The focus is on building confidence, developing problem-solving skills and preparing for a successful transition to secondary school.
